Efficacy of Korean Medicine Rhinitis Treatment 'Biryemgo' Proven
[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] The scientific efficacy of Biyengo, a traditional Korean medicine topical ointment used to treat nasal diseases such as rhinitis and sinusitis, has been proven. It is expected to help the treatment of rhinitis for the 10 million rhinitis patients nationwide.
The Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine announced on the 5th that a joint research team consisting of Dr. Son Miju from the Clinical Medicine Department and Professor Lee Donghyo from Woosuk University Korean Medicine Hospital produced these research results.
To verify the efficacy of Biyengo, the research team conducted an observational study on 60 rhinitis patients aged between 19 and 60. Participants applied Biyengo more than three times daily on average for four weeks, and the research team observed the degree of improvement.
Patients who applied Biyengo for one month reported that nasal symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing were alleviated by 36.4% after treatment. Additionally, scores related to activity limitations caused by rhinitis, and the occurrence of eye symptoms decreased by 49.4% after treatment.
Through endoscopic examination to check the condition of the nasal mucosa, the research team found that the color and swelling of the nasal mucosa improved by about 22%, and cytokine levels indicating the degree of inflammation inside the nasal cavity also decreased.
