Increased 'Jipbap'... Emart Launches Family Food Discount Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Emart will offer discounts on key household ingredients such as kimchi, pork, and Spanish mackerel until the 11th.
Emart will first discount seasonal products like U.S.-grown oranges and domestic spring greens. Additionally, domestically produced pork selected as grade 1 or higher will be offered at an affordable price starting from 580 KRW per 100g. Australian "air-shipped beef" will be sold at a 20% discount on all items when purchased with Shinsegae Points.
Furthermore, "Pulmuone Toktok Jeollado-style Pogikimchi" will be available at a buy-one-get-one-free price, and all packaged kimchi products can be purchased at a 20% discount when using the Emart e-Card. On the 7th, in celebration of "Samchi Day," all domestic Spanish mackerel products will be sold at a 30% discount when purchased with Shinsegae Points for one day only.
Emart planned this event as the demand for household ingredients increased due to more family members staying at home amid the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Emart, sales of basic cooking ingredients such as eggs, carrots, onions, and potatoes increased by approximately 20-30% compared to the previous year during February. Egg sales rose by 26.2%, onions by 32.2%, carrots by 28.5%, and potatoes by 10.9% compared to last year.
Sales of major ingredients like mackerel, Spanish mackerel, pork, and kimchi also increased. Sales of mackerel and Spanish mackerel rose by about 20% compared to February last year. During the same period, pork sales increased by approximately 10%.
