'Anyway, Ddakttaguri', 'Struggle', 'Shout, Playground', 'That Guy, Worry' Selected as 4 Books of 'Guro's Books'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Sung) has selected the ‘Book of Guro’ for 2020.

Guro-gu announced that it will select the ‘Book of Guro’ and promote a reading campaign to increase residents’ interest in books and foster a reading culture in the local community.

Guro-gu selected one book each in four categories: adult, youth, fairy tale, and picture book as the Book of Guro.

In the adult category, ‘Anyway, Woodpecker (Park Gyuri)’ was chosen. The book, written by a researcher at the Institute for Industrial Sustainability and her primatologist husband, explores the meaning of a ‘sustainable life’ through the woodpecker.

In the youth category, ‘Struggling (Park Haryeong)’, which deals with various family forms and healthy distancing among family members, was selected. The fairy tale category chose ‘Shout Out, Playground (Jeon Hyeongmin)’, depicting children in a baseball club learning about rightful rights and the value of justice. The picture book category selected ‘That Guy, Worry (Andante)’, which shows how to wisely cope with worries and personal growth.

Previously, Guro-gu received book recommendations from residents and library officials for the selection of the ‘Book of Guro’. Among the recommended books, the Book of Guro Selection Committee chose nine candidate books, and a resident preference survey was conducted on these candidates. The final ‘Book of Guro’ was decided by reflecting the survey results.

Guro-gu will also prepare various programs using the Book of Guro. To spread the reading culture, it will carry out reading relay events, reading golden bell contests, book festivals, and other reading culture projects.

A Guro-gu official said, “During a time when ‘social distancing’ is necessary due to COVID-19, reading can be a good friend that soothes loneliness and brings joy,” adding, “We hope the Book of Guro will provide strength and happiness for recovery to residents exhausted by the virus.”
