"Corona Comes Out of the Nose, Is This Something a Person Should Say?"... United Party's Lee Nak-yeon's Son Faces Fierce Backlash for Gaffe
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The United Future Party raised voices of criticism regarding a slip of the tongue made by Mr. Lee, the son of former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, who is serving as the chairman of the Democratic Party's COVID-19 Disaster Safety Countermeasures Committee, during a YouTube broadcast.
Floor spokesperson Kim Hyun-ah said in a statement on the 4th, "'Corona comes out of the nose.' This reckless remark made by a doctor about the COVID-19 virus, which the people of the Republic of Korea are struggling hard against, is making the public furious." Mr. Lee recently said jokingly on a medical specialty YouTube broadcast about the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), "Corona comes out of the nose."
Spokesperson Kim said, "If the COVID-19 deceased, confirmed patients, as well as medical staff and quarantine officials who are fighting desperately on the front lines against the disease, hear this, they would be in tears of blood," adding, "It is an outrageous remark beyond common sense that the son of a former prime minister who was responsible for leading the Republic of Korea would say such things on a public YouTube broadcast."
He asked, "To former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon: Are you aware of how serious your son's remarks are, which show no recognition of the gravity of the situation, no empathy for others' suffering, and instead mock it?" He demanded that former Prime Minister Lee apologize for the remark, asking, "Do you think it is normal for your son to joke and laugh about the coronavirus as a comedic subject?"
