Gwangju Dong-gu, New Content Proposals for Citizens at Chungjang Festival Contest
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 4th that it is holding a public contest for citizen proposal programs for the ‘17th Nostalgic Chungjang Festival’.
This contest aims to have citizens participate directly as festival planners to build consensus during the festival promotion process, discover free and creative ideas, organize them into festival programs, and realize a Chungjang Festival created together by the public and the government.
The contest categories are divided into Nostalgia, Gwangju Identity, and Expansion. ‘Nostalgia’ includes participation and experience programs themed on memories; ‘Gwangju Identity’ includes programs reflecting Dong-gu, Gwangju, and programs that can showcase the strength of Gwangju citizens and the excellence of culture and arts; ‘Expansion’ includes programs aimed at nationalizing the festival and advancing it as an Asia-centered festival, large-scale performances that can lead to festival issues, and programs to spread the festival dress code ‘blue jeans’ as well as ideas linked to revitalizing the local economy.
Anyone interested in the festival and with creative ideas can participate. Applications can be submitted by visiting, mail, or email through the Dong-gu Office website and the Chungjang Festival website by the 27th.
Judging will consider creativity, feasibility, and popularity, and seven teams will be selected through evaluation next month. Selected individuals or teams will receive prize money: 1 grand prize team 500,000 KRW, 2 excellence prize teams 300,000 KRW each, and 4 encouragement prize teams 100,000 KRW each.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “We look forward to many citizens participating in developing new content for the Nostalgic Chungjang Festival,” adding, “We will prepare a more innovative and abundant Chungjang Festival than ever before with creative and fresh ideas directly proposed by citizens.”
