KT Successfully Validates 5G MEC Technology with Overseas Telecom Operators
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT has successfully verified '5G Mobile Edge Computing' technology with leading overseas telecom companies China Unicom (China), Telstra (Australia), and Telef?nica (Spain).
According to KT on the 4th, KT and the three global telecom companies succeeded in verifying 5G technology, including cross-national Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) interoperability. Based on this, KT plans to continue cooperation within the GSMA Telecom Edge Cloud Taskforce. Additionally, KT intends to release related solutions to encourage participation from many telecom operators.
To verify this technology, KT signed business agreements in February with representative telecom companies from Spain, Australia, and China. The goal is to interconnect 5G MEC technology with various operators and develop solutions that can link artificial intelligence, connected cars, cloud gaming, and smart factories.

Hong Kyung-pyo, Head of KT Convergence Technology Institute (Executive Vice President), said, “KT will strive to establish an MEC collaboration system that allows many operators from various fields to participate as quickly as possible,” and added, “KT plans to focus on developing technology that can provide high-quality 5G services to customers worldwide, including Korea.”
