[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the afternoon of the 2nd, Kim Pil-woo, Director of the European Division, summoned ?mer, Charg? d'Affaires of the Embassy of Turkey in Korea, to express regret over Turkey's sudden suspension of flights to Korea and entry restrictions on Koreans on the 1st. He also requested close cooperation to ensure the safe and swift return of Korean nationals.
Director Kim expressed deep regret to the Turkish side over the recent measures taken without sufficient prior consultation with Korea, which caused significant inconvenience to Korean citizens. The Turkish Ambassador to Korea is currently staying in the home country.
Furthermore, Director Kim urged the Turkish side to make their best efforts and cooperate fully to ensure the safe and prompt return of Korean travelers affected by this measure.
In response, Charg? d'Affaires ?mer stated that the Turkish government took the measures somewhat abruptly due to concerns over the health and safety of its citizens. He expressed regret over the lack of sufficient prior consultation with Korea during the process and mentioned that he would recommend to headquarters to actively cooperate for the safe and swift return of Korean travelers.
