Kang Kyung-hwa: "Discussing Reasonable Solutions Based on Principles in Korea-Japan Relations... Significant Differences in Positions"
[Asia Economy reporters Lee Ji-eun and Won Dara] Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha stated that she is upholding principles while discussing reasonable solutions to resolve the deadlock in Korea-Japan relations, but significant differences in positions still remain.
On the 2nd, during a parliamentary question session, Minister Kang responded to a question from Kang Chang-il, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, regarding solutions to Korea-Japan relations, saying, "The government is addressing this issue with the stance that while upholding principles, it is open to discussing reasonable solutions."
Minister Kang said, "The government's principles are twofold: that the rulings of our Supreme Court must be respected, and that the compensation rights of the victims at the center of these rulings must be fulfilled," adding, "We are communicating while maintaining principles and discussing various methods with Japan, but significant differences in positions still exist."
Regarding export regulations, she said, "The government's position is that Japan's export control measures are unfair and arbitrary, and that the situation should be restored to the state before July 1, when the export controls were imposed," adding, "Dialogue between export authorities is ongoing."

Minister of the Interior and Safety Jin Young said about the 'Moon Hee-sang plan,' which emphasizes voluntary participation by companies and citizens of both Korea and Japan, "The Moon Hee-sang plan is also being carefully reviewed from an open perspective under the principles the government has upheld, and we hope it leads to a smooth agreement between Korea and Japan," adding, "We will do everything necessary."
