Pete Buttigieg Withdraws from US Democratic Presidential Primary (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Pete Buttigieg, former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who emerged as a leading presidential candidate by creating an early surge in the U.S. Democratic presidential primary, has decided to drop out.
Buttigieg's campaign announced on the 1st (local time) that he would cease his election campaign going forward.
Buttigieg, who caused a sensation by unexpectedly winning first place in the Iowa caucus, finished fourth with 8.2% of the vote in the Democratic Party's fourth primary, the South Carolina primary, held the day before.

With Buttigieg's withdrawal, the Democratic presidential primary candidates have been reduced to six: Senator Bernie Sanders, former Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Elizabeth Warren, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Senator Amy Klobuchar, and Representative Tulsi Gabbard.
