Sohn Hak-kyu: "The ruling party trying to follow the same path as the Korean Party is shameful... Considering injunction application"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] Son Hak-kyu, former leader of the Bareunmirae Party and member of the Minsheng Party, stated on the 1st that the Democratic Party of Korea's move to establish a proportional satellite party is "truly shameful to think of taking the same path as the Future Korea Party at this point," and added, "We are considering filing an injunction to suspend the registration validity of all satellite parties in the political sphere."
At a press conference held at the National Assembly Press Hall on the same day, former leader Son criticized, saying, "Although the ruling party denied the possibility of establishing a proportional satellite party, the fact is that they are eager to do so."
He said, "The establishment of a proportional satellite party undermines the fundamental purpose of introducing the mixed-member proportional representation system to change our country's political structure, and the National Election Commission should not have accepted the registration of the Future Korea Party in accordance with this purpose," emphasizing, "The government must strongly urge the filing of a lawsuit to dissolve proportional satellite parties that violate the democratic basic order under the Constitution."
Former leader Son added, "Even if the Constitutional Court's ruling comes after the election, such parties will be dissolved based on an unconstitutional ruling, and the proportional representatives belonging to those parties will lose their seats," and said, "We are also considering filing an injunction to suspend the registration validity of parties as carried out by the National Election Commission."
Regarding Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, he criticized, saying, "He declared that he would not run for constituency candidates and would only nominate proportional candidates. This is effectively a declaration of an electoral alliance with the United Future Party," and added, "Considering the expectations placed on former lawmaker Ahn, who pledged to return to Korea and create a practical centrist party, it is truly regrettable."
