Woori Financial Group Provides Essential Goods and Donations Worth 1.1 Billion KRW to Vulnerable Groups Affected by COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Woori Financial Group announced on the 1st that it will provide daily necessities and donations worth approximately 1.1 billion KRW to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), which is spreading nationwide.
Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19, Woori Financial will support vulnerable elderly people in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, where concerns about food shortages have increased due to the closure of multi-use facilities, by providing daily necessities kits worth about 300 million KRW. The daily necessities will be purchased from traditional markets in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas to support local small business owners whose sales have sharply declined due to the COVID-19 situation.
Son Tae-seung, Chairman of Woori Financial Group, said, "I hope that the daily necessities kits, filled with the warm hearts of Woori Financial Group employees, will bring some comfort and help to the citizens of the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions who are struggling due to COVID-19."
Additionally, Woori Financial will deliver 200 million KRW in donations, raised voluntarily by Woori Bank employees through partial salary contributions, to 57 child care facilities in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions that are facing difficulties due to school closures and prolonged restrictions on outdoor activities amid infection risks.
Park Pil-jun, Chairman of the Woori Bank Labor Union, said, "As the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases increases, we want to lend our strength to the citizens of the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions who are going through many hardships."
Woori Financial is responding company-wide to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections. It has provided hand sanitizers and masks worth about 500 million KRW free of charge to customers visiting branches and supported infection prevention kits worth about 100 million KRW, including 45,000 masks, for vulnerable children and elderly people who are at high risk of infection.
