Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Secures Consecutive Orders for Medium-sized PC Ships
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd., a shipbuilding affiliate of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, is solidifying its position as the world's No. 1 in the medium-sized ship sector by consecutively securing orders for its main vessel type, medium-sized petrochemical product carriers (PC ships), since the beginning of the new year.
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard recently announced that it signed a construction contract worth 45.3 billion KRW for one 50,000-ton PC ship with an Asian shipping company. The contract includes an option for one additional vessel, raising expectations for further orders.
The PC ship ordered this time measures 183m in length, 32.2m in width, and 19.1m in height. Construction will begin in July at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard's Ulsan yard, with delivery to the shipowner scheduled for the end of June 2021.
Earlier, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard secured orders for seven 50,000-ton PC ships from three shipping companies in January, and on the 12th, it received an order for one 50,000-ton PC ship from an Asian shipping company. In total, the company has secured nine PC ships worth approximately 402 billion KRW so far this year.
