Ministry of Environment "Special Crackdown on Air Pollutant Emissions... 227 Business Sites Caught"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of Environment announced that, following inspections of nationwide air pollutant emission sites, violations were detected at 227 out of 814 sites.
The Ministry of Environment disclosed the interim results of special inspections conducted from last November to this month targeting major industrial complexes nationwide in relation to the implementation of the fine dust seasonal management system on the 27th.
According to the report, violations were found at 227 sites (289 cases) out of 814 air pollutant emission sites nationwide. The detection rate reached 27.9%.
Specific violations included ▲ improper operation of prevention facilities (109 cases) ▲ failure to report changes (90 cases) ▲ waste and other issues (65 cases) ▲ failure to conduct self-measurements (25 cases).
This inspection involved deploying personnel from the Ministry of Environment and its affiliated organizations, as well as various advanced equipment, to reduce air pollutants emitted from workplaces during the high-concentration fine dust period (December to March).
A total of 168 personnel and advanced equipment such as unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and mobile measurement vehicles were deployed jointly by eight regional environmental offices including the Hangang River Basin Environmental Office, the National Institute of Environmental Research, and the Korea Environment Corporation.
The Ministry of Environment plans to continue special inspections targeting major industrial complexes and areas densely populated with small-scale workplaces until next month.

Geum Han-seung, Director of Air Quality Policy at the Ministry of Environment, stated, "We will do our best to carry out special inspections of workplaces without fail throughout March, the final month of the seasonal management system, to reduce illegal emissions of air pollutants."
