Gradual Reduction of Differences Between Long-Term Care Insurance and National Health Insurance
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jang Man-chae, a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea in Suncheon, announced on the 27th that he visited Seomdol Nursing Home in Byeollyang-myeon, Suncheon City on the 26th and held a policy meeting to strengthen elderly welfare policies with members of the Suncheon City Elderly Nursing Facilities Association.
Candidate Jang Man-chae stated, "The average life expectancy of our country's elderly exceeds 85 years, and by 2025, the elderly population ratio is expected to exceed 20%, entering a super-aged society," and emphasized, "We must strengthen care and protection functions for the elderly going forward."
At the meeting, representatives of the Elderly Nursing Facilities Association requested the insurance coverage of food material costs under long-term care insurance, measures regarding the out-of-pocket expenses for dementia patients' nursing services, and improvements to the unreasonable adjustment system of long-term care facilities.
In response, Candidate Jang said, "We will prepare policies to gradually reduce the support gap between long-term care insurance and national health insurance to expand elderly welfare," and added, "Considering the difficulties faced by dementia patients in rural fishing villages, we will devise measures to ensure that dementia patients under long-term care also receive the benefits of the national dementia responsibility system."
He also stated, "We will reform the punitive adjustment system in long-term care facilities and prepare long-term measures to expand the workforce of care workers so that elderly residents in facilities can receive substantial services."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "We will establish a long-term elderly care worker support center and expand continuing education to enhance the professionalism of care workers. Through boosting the morale of workers engaged in elderly welfare, we will ultimately prepare multifaceted measures so that the elderly in the Suncheon area can live a healthy and happy second life."
