Gwangjin District Council Joins Efforts to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19
Disinfection Activities Conducted Over 3 Days at Subway Stations, Bus Terminals, and Foreign Schools
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] As COVID-19 confirmed cases surged, the government raised the infectious disease crisis alert level to ‘Severe’.
In response, the Gwangjin District Council convened an emergency meeting of council members on the 21st to join efforts in protecting the lives of Gwangjin residents and the safety of Gwangjin District, holding a countermeasure meeting to fully respond to the rapidly spreading COVID-19.
At the meeting, Gwangjin council members resolved to participate in district-by-district disinfection efforts at the council level to alleviate residents’ anxiety and prevent confirmed cases within the region.
Accordingly, on the 24th (near Gwangnaru Station, Achasan Station, Gunja Station, Junggok Station), the 25th (Korean-Mongolian School), and the 26th (near Dongseoul Terminal, Gangbyeon Station, Guui Station, Konkuk University Station, Ttukseom Resort Station), disinfection activities were carried out over three days targeting multi-use facilities, public facilities, and areas densely populated by foreigners to make every effort to block COVID-19.
Since these activities were conducted in places with high foot traffic, the council considered using a disinfectant mainly composed of citric acid, a natural substance harmless to the human body, and all council members personally carried spray disinfectors to engage in barrier disinfection.
Furthermore, Gwangjin District Council members decided to postpone the temporary session schedule and refrain from mass gatherings to participate in overcoming the national crisis, and have been making multifaceted efforts such as individually focusing on disinfection in vulnerable areas by neighborhood.
They also strive to create an atmosphere where the district council takes the lead in participating in disinfection activities and plan to continue supporting disinfection efforts until COVID-19 is eradicated, taking the lead in alleviating residents’ anxiety.

Chairman Goyang-seok stated, “As a district council member who meets many residents on the front lines, I feel that many residents are suffering due to COVID-19. As a resident myself, all council members will do their best to join forces with the executive branch to contribute even a small effort so that residents can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
