Cha Myung-jin "Is COVID-19 Shincheonji's fault? This is a conspiracy... Moon administration's China dream is the problem"
[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] Former Liberty Korea Party (now United Future Party) lawmaker Cha Myung-jin claimed that the COVID-19 outbreak was due to the Moon Jae-in administration's China dream.
On the 24th, former lawmaker Cha wrote on his Facebook, "I testified that the Moon Jae-in regime's conspiracy to blame Shincheonji for the COVID-19 outbreak is unjust. The leftists distorted this as if I were siding with Shincheonji," adding, "COVID-19 spread widely because of the endless China dream of the Moon Jae-in (a derogatory term for President Moon) administration."
He continued, "Shincheonji is not the cause but the result of the COVID-19 outbreak," and added, "The leftist media who caught on quietly backed down, and later I will retaliate and seek compensation for the hateful image they falsely pinned on me."
Former lawmaker Cha said, "Some people criticize me by asking if I am a Shincheonji believer because I said Shincheonji is being religiously oppressed, but from a secular perspective, Shincheonji is definitely a religion," adding, "Street fortune-telling shops and cults are all religions. As long as they do not harm public morals, human rights, or national identity, all religions should be subject to religious freedom. This is true liberalism."
He also said, "If Shincheonji's worship methods facilitated the spread of COVID-19, then they should be changed, and if there is no other way, they should be cautiously guided to temporarily close themselves," emphasizing, "The state should not violently shut down the church itself. I am not siding with Shincheonji but advocating for the principle of separation of church and state."
He also claimed that Christianity is not a religion. He said, "From the perspective of the Bible, Christianity is not what the world calls a religion," adding, "Christianity is not just one of many religions but the unique gospel of God. To me, the Juche faction heresy and Shincheonji heresy are the same, just one among many religions."
Finally, he wrote, "To the Christian senior believers who were angry that I called Shincheonji a religion, please understand my intention as my knowledge was limited and my expression was clumsy."

Earlier, on the 19th, former lawmaker Cha sparked controversy by claiming, "Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung blaming Shincheonji for the COVID-19 outbreak and shutting down churches is dictatorship and religious oppression," calling it "a witch hunt that shifts their own sins onto others."
