Government: "Maintain Current Level Instead of Banning Entry from China" (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Amid growing demands to ban entry of Chinese nationals, the government stated on the 24th that it is "appropriate to maintain the current level of entry restrictions" regarding the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Kim Kang-rip, Deputy Head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for COVID-19, explained on the day, "Although a considerable number of confirmed cases have appeared in regions other than Hubei Province in China, after analyzing the announcements from Chinese authorities and statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), we decided to maintain the current entry procedures instead of considering additional entry bans."

Deputy Head Kim said, "Currently, for those entering from China, regardless of nationality, we are supporting thorough contact tracing and 14 days of self-monitoring through special quarantine procedures beyond the usual quarantine process." He added, "At this point, it is appropriate to maintain this level," and stated, "Any additional strategies or expansions will be reviewed in consultation with health authorities if there are changes in the situation."
