China Reports 409 New COVID-19 Cases and 150 Deaths (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the 23rd, 150 additional deaths due to COVID-19 infection were reported in China.
According to the Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) on the 24th at midnight, 409 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 150 new deaths were recorded across China. Of the 409 confirmed cases, 398 were from Hubei Province, and among the 150 deaths, 149 were patients from Hubei Province. One death was reported in Hainan Province. Additionally, 620 new suspected cases were added in one day.
In cumulative totals, 77,150 people across China have been confirmed infected. Among them, 24,734 have recovered and been discharged, and 2,592 have died. Currently, 49,824 confirmed patients are receiving treatment in hospitals. Of those under treatment, 9,915 are in severe condition, indicating a high possibility of further increases in deaths.
The cumulative number of suspected cases is 3,434, and the cumulative number of close contacts is 635,531. Among the close contacts, 97,481 are currently under medical observation.

Outside mainland China but within the Greater China region, a total of 112 confirmed cases have been reported: Hong Kong with 74 cases (12 discharged, 2 deaths), Macau with 10 cases (6 discharged), and Taiwan with 28 cases (5 discharged, 1 death).
