Chonnam National University Delivers 'Masks' to Sister School in China
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University (President Jeong Byeongseok) has provided 8,000 personal protective masks to four sister schools in China. Along with this, messages of consolation and encouragement were also delivered to the presidents of the respective universities.
According to Chonnam National University on the 21st, President Jeong Byeongseok and Alumni Association President Park Seunghyun met with Son Hyunwoo, Consul General of Gwangju in Korea, the day before to deliver messages of support.
President Jeong said, “The sister schools we have established relationships with, including Onju University, Onju Medical College, Onju City No.14 Senior High School, and Yanbian University, are experiencing considerable difficulties due to the COVID-19 situation. We have gathered the intentions of Chonnam National University faculty, staff, students, and alumni to send encouragement and support to them, along with personal protective masks as a token of friendship.”
He added, “Currently, Chonnam National University is thoroughly managing international students who have returned from China by providing personal protective equipment and separate spaces. Fortunately, having a Consul General in Gwangju helps with student management, and we hope to continue building a good cooperative relationship.”
Son Hyunwoo, Consul General of Gwangju, said, “We deeply feel the warm affection of the Korean people who are comforting China’s difficulties. We are grateful that Chonnam National University directly supported with supplies (masks) despite the difficult situation, and we value that sentiment greatly.”
He continued, “In China, thorough quarantine procedures are being conducted with responsibility for all departing individuals, including Chinese students in the Gwangju area. Please note that there have been no confirmed Chinese infection cases in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region so far.”
