與 "Now Is the Time to Unite, Not Engage in Political Strife... Shincheonji Must Cooperate with Epidemiological Investigations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 21st, the Democratic Party of Korea called for bipartisan cooperation from the opposition as confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) surged.
Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party, said at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, "Shim Jae-cheol, floor leader of the United Future Party, publicly stated that if his party becomes the largest party, they will push for the president's impeachment," criticizing, "It is an idea to move toward political strife again even though the entire nation is uniting against COVID-19."
He emphasized, "Now is the time for all parties to unite not for political strife but to overcome COVID-19 and save the people's economy," adding, "I hope they clearly state their positions on quarantine treatment measures and the supplementary budget for the people's livelihood."
Lee In-young, floor leader of the Democratic Party, also said, "Bringing up impeachment that would plunge the country into chaos in the current situation is truly irresponsible," and "Now is absolutely not the time for political parties to engage in political strife."
He added, "First, the National Assembly must do its job well. This is a situation where extraordinary measures must be discussed," and "I hope the National Assembly can start discussions on measures as soon as possible, understanding the urgent feelings of the people."
In particular, the Democratic Party requested cooperation from the Shincheonji Church to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Lee said, "Among those who had contact with patient number 31, about 400 people have lost contact, and tracking investigations are facing difficulties," urging, "The Shincheonji Church should transparently disclose all information and actively cooperate with quarantine authorities."
He continued, "Quarantine authorities must mobilize all available legal and administrative means to conduct thorough epidemiological investigations on the Shincheonji Church," emphasizing, "The government and the Democratic Party will definitely protect the citizens of Daegu and Gyeongbuk."
Park Kwang-on, Supreme Council member, said, "Infections among soldiers in Jeju and in Jeonju and Gwangju have all been confirmed to be people who attended Shincheonji Church gatherings," stressing, "It is very important that all attendees of the Shincheonji Church gatherings undergo testing."
