Daegu COVID-19 Additional Confirmed Cases Increase by 50 in One Day... Total 84 Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] In Daegu, 50 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were confirmed in just one day.
The Daegu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced on the 21st at 9 a.m. that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 50 compared to 9 a.m. the previous day. The total number of confirmed cases in the Daegu area is now 84. The total confirmed cases in Daegu rose sharply from 1 on the 18th to 11 on the 19th, 34 on the 20th, and then to 84 on this day.
Most of the additional confirmed cases are believed to be related to Shincheonji. The Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters plans to disclose information as soon as detailed epidemiological investigations are completed.
Among the 1,001 high-risk concentrated management members who attended worship at the Shincheonji Daegu Church along with the 31st patient (born in 1959, Korean female), 57 people have not yet been contacted according to the preliminary investigation results. Of the 944 members who were contacted, 135 reported having symptoms, an increase of 45 from the previous day.
In the full survey of Shincheonji members, among the additional 3,474 first-round survey targets, 409 (11.8%) reported symptoms, 2,722 (78.4%) reported no symptoms, and 343 (9.8%) have not yet been contacted. The city has guided 544 people who reported symptoms to self-isolate and plans to conduct detailed consultations and specimen tests through the local health centers.
The city recommended the closure of all 1,324 daycare centers starting from this day. It also decided to strictly control visits and meetings by outsiders at 252 elderly medical welfare facilities.
The city also proposed to the central health authorities to change the COVID-19 confirmed patient hospitalization treatment guidelines from a single-person negative pressure room system to a multi-person general ward system. The city plans to secure additional rooms for all 32 inpatients at Saeronan Korean Medicine Hospital currently being treated at Daegu Medical Center and about 290 general patients, then convert the entire ward to use all 373 beds for treating COVID-19 confirmed patients.

The hospitalization treatment guidelines for COVID-19 confirmed patients have been changed from a single-person negative pressure room system to a multi-person general ward system. Accordingly, the city first secured additional rooms for all 32 inpatients at Saeronan Korean Medicine Hospital and about 290 general patients currently hospitalized at Daegu Medical Center, and plans to convert the entire ward to use all 373 beds for treating COVID-19 confirmed patients. The city is also cooperating with regional medical institutions by securing an additional 63 rooms and 117 beds at Keimyung University and Dongsan Hospital in Daegu to expand bed capacity.
