50 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Daegu City... Total 84 Cases Reported
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Daegu has increased to a total of 84.
According to Daegu City on the 21st, as of 10 a.m., the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Daegu increased by 50 from the previous day to 84.
Looking at the confirmed cases, the numbers have surged as follows: 1 on the 18th, 11 on the 19th, 34 on the 20th, and 84 on the 21st. Most of the additional confirmed cases are related to members of the Shincheonji Church.
Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin stated, “The central health authorities accepted Daegu City's proposal, and the response guidelines for hospitalization and treatment of confirmed COVID-19 patients have been changed from one patient per negative pressure room to multiple patients per general ward room.”
He also said, “Accordingly, Daegu City plans to secure additional hospital rooms by transferring all patients currently hospitalized at Saeronan Korean Medicine Hospital (32 patients) and general patients (about 290) at Daegu Medical Center, and in the long term, to convert the entire ward to use all 373 beds for the hospitalization and treatment of confirmed COVID-19 patients.”
He continued, “Furthermore, we are making every effort to secure beds in cooperation with local medical institutions, including securing an additional 63 rooms and 117 beds at Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital.”

Mayor Kwon also said, “Considering the current increasing trend of confirmed cases, it seems this will soon reach its limit as well. We will closely consult with health authorities on government-level measures such as utilizing military hospitals and designating specialized infectious disease hospitals.”
