Martial Arts, Socar Startup Testbed MOU Signed
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and Socar signed a "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Startup Testbed Cooperation" on the 20th at COEX in Samseong-dong. About 10 people attended the signing ceremony, including Lee Dong-gi, Head of the Innovation Growth Division at KITA, and Won Jong-pil, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Socar.
Through this agreement, both organizations promised ▲joint promotion related to startup testbeds ▲connection with domestic and international testbeds requiring Socar solutions ▲joint projects and business cooperation between the two organizations.
As the first collaborative project, Socar will conduct a proof of concept (PoC) for a "vehicle location confirmation system" at the COEX rooftop parking lot for three months starting from the end of February. PoC is a procedure to test new technology in practice before commercialization after development.
Until now, Socar users have faced difficulties in vehicle delivery and return at Socar zones located in large-scale parking facilities or complex spaces. Although development of a new system had begun, there was no place to test it. Through this MOU, it became possible to test it at COEX. The COEX rooftop parking lot has about 600 parking spaces and is one of the Socar zones with frequent user inquiries, so it is expected to have a significant effect on technology verification.
Through this cooperation, Socar plans to reduce vehicle confirmation and return errors for users, thereby improving user convenience as well as operational efficiency.

Lee Dong-gi, Head of the Innovation Growth Division at KITA, said, "Globally, the demand from startups to test innovative solutions is increasing, but there are not many cases where companies operate their infrastructure as testbeds. As Korea's first private testbed support organization, KITA will cooperate with many startups to enable them to test their technologies and connect with overseas testbeds to actively support the global expansion of our startups."
