Assemblyman Son Geum-ju Announces Tailored Pledges for Bitgaram Innovation City
"Promise of Improving Living Conditions, Creating Jobs, and Revitalizing the Local Economy"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Son Geum-ju, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Jeonnam Naju·Hwasun, National Assembly Budget and Accounts Special Committee, Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee), announced on the 19th a customized pledge for Bitgaram focusing on the additional relocation of public institutions to Bitgaram Innovation City and improvement of residential conditions.
Representative Son promised to promote the complete cancellation of the SRF power plant and support the swift conclusion of loss compensation negotiations, additional relocation of public institutions such as Korea District Heating Corporation, creation of win-win jobs by having public institutions directly participate in attracting related companies, and the normal opening of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) University.
He also pledged customized policies for Bitgaram Innovation City, including operation of shuttle buses between KTX Naju Station and Bitgaram, early establishment of the Bitgaram Complex Innovation Center and activation of resident participation facility operations, support for installation of an outdoor winter skating rink in Bitgaram Lake Park, support for the establishment of Bitgaram Childcare and Sharing Comprehensive Center, expansion of Bitgaram Children's Center, establishment and operation of Bitgaram Women's Job Center, and regional economic revitalization through projects supporting reasonable rent.
Representative Son Geum-ju emphasized, “The core of innovation city development lies in people. We will create Bitgaram and Naju where people gather,” adding, “We will not only improve residential conditions but also achieve the purpose of balanced national development, which is the founding goal of innovation cities, through job creation, revitalization of local commercial districts, and hiring of local talent, making Bitgaram Innovation City the best and representative innovation city nationwide.”

Meanwhile, through the 20th National Assembly, Representative Son has worked to improve residential conditions and development of innovation cities by excluding SRF from renewable energy in the ‘Renewable Energy Act,’ supporting innovation city education through the ‘Innovation City Special Act,’ fostering and supporting the energy industry via the ‘Energy Industry Cluster Special Act,’ selecting Bitgaram Innovation City as an energy convergence complex, designating Naju as a regulatory free zone for new energy industries, and expanding local talent hiring up to 30%.
