SMEs Build 'Hallyu Marketing Calendar'... "Collaboration Among Government Ministries"
K-Beauty and Hallyu Marketing
Country-Specific Monthly Marketing Calendar Platform
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 19th that it has established a 'Hallyu Calendar Platform' containing plans and support details for Hallyu events.
This Hallyu Calendar Platform was prepared to facilitate the smooth progress of Hallyu-linked support projects in collaboration with small and medium enterprises. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety participated.
The platform was created in the form of an online calendar that allows easy access at a glance to Hallyu event information from six ministries promoting overseas marketing projects for SMEs utilizing Hallyu such as K-Content, K-Beauty, and K-Food.
To enhance information accessibility and user convenience for SMEs, detailed page functions were added to allow detailed searches of this year’s ministry-specific Hallyu event information by year, month, and export country.
Taking this opportunity to establish the Hallyu Calendar Platform, the plan is to further activate the overseas expansion of excellent SME products such as BrandK, as well as to significantly expand inter-ministerial Hallyu collaboration projects aimed at nurturing them into luxury national representative brands.
A representative example is that the Northern Economic Cooperation Committee, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and four other Hallyu-related ministries will jointly host 'KCON 2020 Russia' to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Korea-Russia diplomatic relations, marking the first time such an event is held in Russia, which has recently been recognized as a foothold for the spread of Hallyu in Europe. This event is scheduled to be held in Moscow, Russia, in May this year.
To this end, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups established a cooperation system for successfully hosting 'KCON Russia' through a task agreement for win-win advancement between large and small businesses with CJ ENM in early January.
Additionally, together with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, promotional and sales booths for promising SME products such as BrandK, K-Food, K-Beauty, and K-Content will be operated at the KCON site. They also plan to jointly carry out programs such as buyer invitation consultation meetings from Russia and neighboring countries.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s 'Mokkoji Korea,' which introduces Hallyu content, Korean cuisine, and beauty overseas, and the collaborative product development project between rookie Hallyu stars and SMEs are also inter-ministerial collaborative programs jointly promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, marking the full-scale promotion of inter-ministerial joint projects utilizing Hallyu.
This year’s SME Hallyu Marketing Calendar can also be checked on the GoBizKorea website, the Enterprise Madang website, and the SME Export Support Center website.

No Yongseok, Director of Global Growth Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, "Overseas marketing utilizing Hallyu is an effective marketing tool for SMEs with weak brand competitiveness to promote their products and brands," adding, "We will continue to make efforts so that more companies can use the Hallyu Calendar to engage in global marketing such as exports."
