[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is offering "Plot Leasing in Hyangnim Urban Agriculture Experience Center" so that local residents can become urban farmers and cultivate vegetable gardens.
The district will recruit participants from March 2 to 8.
The total area of the plots available for lease is 210 durak (1 durak = 10m2), and applications can be made for one durak per household (family) or one community group as a basic unit.
The cultivation period is from March 23 to November 30, and the usage fee is 30,000 KRW per durak, the same as last year.
The plots are divided into three types: general plots available to any citizen registered with an address in Seoul, community plots available only to groups of five or more registered in the district, and considerate plots for multicultural families, disabled persons, and residents of Bulgwang 2-dong registered in the district.
Hyangnim Urban Agriculture Experience Center plans to hold an orientation for plot lessees on March 21-22 to explain usage methods and crop cultivation tips. When cultivating crops, urban agriculture experts will be individually assigned to six community gardens such as Pureun Village and Chorok Village to act as mentors for beginner urban farmers.
The selection of lessees and announcement of results will be conducted by computer lottery on March 9, and the results will be posted on the district office website on March 10.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated that the plots in Hyangnim Urban Agriculture Experience Center are popular places for local residents, and the urban gardens are expected to provide participants with opportunities to experience farming and spend happy times with their families. She urged many residents to participate so that the garden village communities can become more lively and enjoyable urban agriculture experience centers.
