Sejong January Unemployment Rate 2.7% 'Lowest Nationwide'
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Last month, Sejong City recorded the lowest unemployment rate nationwide at 2.7%.
According to the city and Statistics Korea (Employment Trends) on the 18th, the employment rate of residents aged 15 to 64 in the Sejong area last month rose by 0.5 percentage points from December of last year to 65.9%, while the unemployment rate during the same period decreased by 0.9 percentage points to 2.7%. The national average unemployment rate last month was 4.1%, which was 1.4 percentage points higher than Sejong's.
In particular, the economically active population in Sejong last month was 177,000, an increase of 16,000 people (9.7%) compared to the same month last year, and the economic participation rate showed a 1.1% decrease for men but a 1.5% increase for women.
The increase in Sejong's economically active population is attributed to the steady population growth centered around the new town.
The city has set this year's employment rate target at 67.5%. Along with this, it plans to promote region-led youth job projects.
First, on the 19th, at the Saerom Comprehensive Welfare Center, a job matching event will be held to recruit 20 counselors for Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance's call center.

A city official stated, "We will continue to operate job matching days to resolve job mismatches," and added, "We will also systematically and effectively prepare job policies by checking the progress of job projects every month."
