KOSPI Retreats to 2230 Level on Net Selling by Foreigners and Institutions... KOSDAQ Mixed Trends
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI retreated to the 2230 level, showing a slight decline in the early session due to simultaneous net selling by foreigners and institutions. The KOSDAQ index is showing mixed trends around the 690 level.
On the 17th, the KOSPI opened at 2243.07, down 0.52 points (0.02%) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI, which started lower, is slightly declining in the early session due to selling by foreigners and institutions. As of 9:23 AM, it is recording 2234.10, down 9.49 points (0.42%) from the previous day.
On the 14th, the KOSPI closed higher at 2243.59, up 0.48% from the previous trading day, as concerns over the novel coronavirus eased. Although there were fluctuations during the session due to worries about the spread of COVID-19, the Chinese government and the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the increase in confirmed cases was due to changes in counting methods and that the rate of increase had not significantly changed, easing anxiety and leading to a rise.
Looking at the current trading trends by participant, foreigners and institutional investors are net sellers of 38.2 billion KRW and 37.9 billion KRW, respectively. In contrast, individual investors are net buyers of 82.3 billion KRW.
By sector, pharmaceuticals, electric and gas utilities, and telecommunications are rising, while services, electrical and electronics, and textiles and apparel are declining.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Biologics, NAVER, Samsung SDI, SK Hynix, and POSCO are falling. On the other hand, Celltrion and SK Telecom are rising.
Currently, in the KOSPI market, 216 stocks are rising without any hitting the upper limit, 549 stocks are falling without any hitting the lower limit, and 118 stocks are unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index is showing mixed trends in the early session. It opened at 690.35, up 1.44 points (0.21%) from the previous trading day, and is showing a sideways trend around the 690 level in the early session. As of 9:24 AM, it is recording 689.24, up 0.33 points (0.05%) from the previous day.
Looking at the current supply and demand situation, similar to the KOSPI, foreigners and institutional investors are net sellers of 23.9 billion KRW and 22.2 billion KRW, respectively. In contrast, individual investors are net buyers of 51.5 billion KRW.
By sector, distribution, transportation, and other manufacturing are rising, while general electrical and electronics, telecommunications equipment, and non-metallic sectors are declining.
Among the top market capitalization stocks in KOSDAQ, EcoPro BM, KMH, Wonik IPS, and Hugel are falling. On the other hand, Celltrion Healthcare, Celltrion Pharm, and Paradise are rising.
