Proud Da-il High School Students Donate Masks to Sinwol 6-dong with Festival Proceeds
Donated 16 Boxes of Masks to Help Vulnerable Groups with Snack Sale Profits... Continuing Various Volunteer Activities Since Last Year Including Dementia Awareness Campaign and Elderly Companionship Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “These days, due to the novel coronavirus, there is even a shortage of masks. We were looking for a place to donate the profits we earned by selling snacks diligently at the festival, and thought it would be meaningful to purchase masks and donate them to neighbors in need.”
This is what Ahn Jae-seung, an 18-year-old student and president of the Life Science Club BLC at Da-il High School, said.
The Life Science Club BLC at Da-il High School visited the Sinwol 6-dong Community Service Center on the 14th (Friday) and donated 16 boxes of masks to low-income families.
The BLC club is an academic club focused on medicine and life sciences, and since last year, it has been active as a youth dementia volunteer group called ‘Memory Love Keepers,’ conducting campaigns to improve dementia awareness.
They also formed the ‘Da-il High School Volunteer Group’ and have been continuing various volunteer activities such as companionship services for the elderly at the Yangcheon Senior Welfare Center.
This year, the students raised 200,000 won by selling snacks such as drinks, so-tteok-so-tteok (skewered rice cakes and sausages), and hot dogs at the school festival (Da-il Eoullim Madang) food stall last October.
After considering where to donate the collected profits, they learned about the nationwide mask shortage caused by COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) and agreed to donate masks to low-income groups who are relatively vulnerable to the virus.
The students decided to visit the nearby Sinwol 6-dong (Yangcheon-gu, Seoul) Community Service Center to deliver the masks for their local community neighbors. The 16 boxes of masks delivered will be distributed to vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone by the Sinwol 6-dong Visiting Welfare Team.
