Ministry of Industry Establishes Legal Requirements for Organization Formation to Investigate Pohang Earthquake and Provide Damage Relief
Legislative Notice for the Enforcement Decree of the Pohang Earthquake Special Act
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chae-seok] The legal requirements for the establishment of an organization responsible for investigating the truth of the Pohang earthquake and providing relief to the victims have been prepared.
On the 16th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that it has publicly notified the draft enforcement decree of the "Special Act on the Investigation of the Truth of the Pohang Earthquake and Relief for Victims."
The draft enforcement decree is intended to specify the details of the "Special Act on the Investigation of the Truth of the Pohang Earthquake and Relief for Victims," which was enacted at the end of last year.
The Special Act was promulgated on December 31 of last year and is scheduled to take effect on April 1. Among its provisions, the regulations on victim recognition and payment of support funds will be implemented on September 1.
The enforcement decree includes details on the composition and operation of the Pohang Earthquake Truth Investigation Committee, the Relief Deliberation Committee, and the Secretariat, as well as specific matters regarding support projects for Pohang residents.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will collect various opinions through the public notification of the draft enforcement decree until the 11th of next month.
Additionally, after going through procedures such as consultations with related agencies and review by the Ministry of Government Legislation, it plans to implement the decree smoothly from April 1.

The enforcement decree related to victim recognition and payment of relief support funds will be prepared in cooperation with the committees and secretariat to be formed after April.
