COVID-19 Spread in China Slows for Third Day... '166 New Cases Outside Hubei Province'
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in China showed signs of slowing down. Especially, excluding Hubei Province, the epicenter of COVID-19, the number of new confirmed cases in China was around 100.
On the 16th, the National Health Commission of China announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide increased by 2,009 and deaths increased by 142 the previous day. Earlier, Hubei Province reported 1,843 new confirmed cases and 139 deaths. Excluding Hubei Province, confirmed cases increased by 166 and deaths by 3 across the rest of China.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases reached 68,500, and deaths totaled 1,665.
On the 12th, when Hubei Province first classified patients diagnosed clinically and through lung CT scans as confirmed cases, an additional 14,840 cases were added. Since then, the number of new confirmed cases has shown a slowing trend: 4,823 on the 13th and 2,420 on the 14th.
The number of discharged patients the previous day was 1,323. The cumulative number of discharged patients is 9,419.

Lang Manyan, head of the COVID-19 response expert group at the National Health Commission, stated that the number of new confirmed cases continues to decrease nationwide except for Hubei Province. He explained, "We have now reached the most critical period of the epidemic transmission," and emphasized, "It is necessary to prioritize epidemic prevention work without any relaxation."
