Gyeongbuk Province Dokdo Historical Materials Research Association Publishes Dokdo-Related Korean Historical Materials Series 1
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] The Dokdo Historical Materials Research Association of Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 14th that it has published 'Comprehensive Korean Historical Materials on Dokdo 1,' which extracts and translates records of Ulleungdo and Dokdo from the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, the Diaries of the Royal Secretariat, the Records of the State Council, and the Daily Records.
The Dokdo Historical Materials Research Association reexamined the previously translated Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and Records of the State Council, and additionally translated the Diaries of the Royal Secretariat and the Daily Records, providing detailed content related to Dokdo, such as the Ulleungdo territorial dispute and the land reclamation system.
The publication involved the participation of the association's representatives: Professor Yeom Jeong-seop of Hallym University, Director Yu Mi-rim of the Hana Culture Research Institute, Research Professor Kim Tae-hoon of Dankook University's Japan Research Institute, Senior Researcher Hong Moon-gi of Gyujanggak, and Principal Researcher Choi Yeon-sook of the Korea Institute of Korean Studies.
Director Yu Mi-rim also discovered and announced last December a record from the Diaries of the Royal Secretariat and the Daily Records, revealing that during King Jeongjo's reign, Lee Bok-hyu, a junior minister of the Ministry of Rites, proposed erecting a territorial stele on Dokdo.
This year, the association plans to broadly investigate and analyze historical materials related to Dokdo and Ulleungdo, focusing on the modern era and the period after the opening of ports.
The province established the research association to collect materials related to Dokdo and to develop arguments supporting Dokdo's territorial sovereignty.
