Daegu City Increases Early Retirement Subsidies for Old Diesel Vehicles to Reduce Fine Dust
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju-cheol In] Daegu City announced on the 14th that it has raised the subsidy ceiling and shortened the registration period to promote the early scrapping of old diesel vehicles that emit large amounts of exhaust fumes and fine dust.
The city raised the subsidy ceiling (based on a total weight of less than 3.5 tons) from the previous 1.65 million KRW to 3 million KRW, and relaxed the registration period requirement in Daegu City from "at least 2 years" to "at least 6 months."
The city decided on a support scale of 17.48 billion KRW and 18,000 vehicles for the first half of the year, and will accept subsidy applications until the 28th. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, applications are accepted only via the website and mail.
The eligible targets are diesel vehicles with emission grade 5, and three types of construction machinery for road use manufactured before 2005 according to emission standards. Subsidies vary by vehicle type and age, with up to 3 million KRW for vehicles under 3.5 tons total weight, and up to 30 million KRW for those over 3.5 tons. The final owner must have owned the vehicle for at least 6 months before the subsidy application date.
The city additionally supports 4 million KRW if a new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) 1-ton cargo truck is purchased after scrapping an old diesel vehicle. Applications must be submitted by the 28th.
