China Reports 1,380 COVID-19 Deaths and 63,851 Confirmed Cases (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] In China, the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has so far caused 1,380 deaths and 63,851 confirmed cases.
On the 14th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 5,090 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in China. Among them, 3,095 cases in Hubei Province were classified as clinically diagnosed cases.
The newly applied clinical diagnosis method allows clinical doctors to confirm COVID-19 cases even if the nucleic acid test results are negative, provided the patient has fever and respiratory symptoms and shows pneumonia signs on computed tomography (CT) scans. Hubei Province has included clinically diagnosed cases as confirmed cases since the previous day under the new criteria to ensure suspected patients receive early treatment alongside confirmed patients, thereby increasing the cure rate.
The death toll increased by 121 in one day. Among them, 116 deaths occurred in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak, with additional deaths reported in Heilongjiang Province (2), Anhui Province (1), Henan Province (1), and Chongqing City (1).
So far, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients across China is 63,851. Hubei Province alone reported 51,986 confirmed cases (including 15,384 clinically diagnosed cases). Among these, 6,723 patients have been discharged, and 1,380 have died.
