Guro-gu and Korea University Jointly Operate 'Citizen Academy'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is operating a ‘Citizen Academy’ together with Korea University.

On the 14th, Guro-gu announced that it will open the ‘Citizen Academy’ to help residents with self-development and provide opportunities for lifelong learning.

The ‘Citizen Academy’ will be held every Monday from March 16 to June 1 at the Guro-gu Community Center.

High-quality lectures in various fields such as humanities, health, psychology, and finance will be held over 12 sessions. Starting with ‘A Joyful Gathering of Our Traditional Sounds’ by Korean traditional musician Baek Hyun-ho, the program includes ‘Current Status and Prospects of Artificial Intelligence Technology’ by Professor Lee Seong-hwan of Korea University’s Department of Brain Engineering, ‘Climate Change and Energy Conservation’ by Associate Research Fellow Yoo Jeong-min of the Seoul Institute, and ‘How Should We View Life?’ by former Korea University Anam Hospital Director Park Jong-hoon, among other expert lectures. A special lecture by Mayor Lee Seong of Guro-gu and field trips to historical sites are also planned.

The course is open to 200 local residents and office workers.

Those who wish to participate can apply from the 17th until the 6th of next month through the Guro-gu Lifelong Learning Center website (http://edu.guro.go.kr/lll/). Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the course is free of charge.

Participants will be granted access to Korea University Library during the education period, and those who attend more than eight sessions will receive a certificate of completion.

A Guro-gu official stated, “The ‘Citizen Academy’ will be a good opportunity to reflect on oneself and grow one step further in a rapidly changing society,” and added, “We hope for the active interest and participation of residents.”
