Gwangju City Supports School Uniform Costs for Children of Basic Livelihood Security Recipients
Applications Accepted at Local Administrative Welfare Centers from the 19th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 13th that, following last year, it will promote a school uniform support project worth a total of 550 million KRW for 2,379 children of newly enrolled middle and high school students from basic livelihood security recipients this year.
The school uniform purchase support amount was raised from 215,000 KRW per person last year to 221,000 KRW this year, based on the "Recommended Maximum Purchase Price for Middle and High School Uniforms Organized by Schools" by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education.
The support target is children of newly enrolled middle and high school students from basic livelihood security households registered as residents in Gwangju as of the application date.
In particular, this year, cash support will also be provided to newly enrolled middle and high school students who do not wear uniforms, expanding the range of supported students compared to last year. The city plans to realize universal educational welfare by reducing the burden of clothing purchase costs through cash support even if uniforms are not worn.
The school uniform support project was selected as a citizen participation budget contest project in 2017 to strengthen the public nature of education, realize universal educational welfare, and reduce parents' educational expenses, and has been implemented for the fourth year this year.
It is promoted with the city’s own budget, and last year, a total of 506 million KRW was supported for 2,358 newly enrolled middle and high school students.
Applications for school uniform support can be submitted year-round at the local district administrative welfare center starting from the 19th.
