KT Launches 8K Super VR Streaming Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT announced on the 13th that it will provide commercial 8K VR streaming services starting in March through its personal VR service, ‘SuperVR’.
Starting this March, KT plans to offer 8K VR content as a streaming service through the ‘8K Premium’ section of the ‘SuperVR Watch’ app to deliver clearer and more immersive VR experiences. This service was developed by combining KT’s 5G network optimization technology with the ‘SuperStream Solution’ from Silicon Valley startup Alkacruz. The core of this service is to divide ultra-high-capacity 8K VR content into hundreds of segments, store them in the cloud, and then transmit only the screen area corresponding to the user’s viewing angle in real time, delivering optimal video.
This approach significantly enhances the quality and vividness of the content without any speed reduction or video stuttering, allowing customers to enjoy 8K VR content with 4 to 5 times higher resolution compared to before, even in wireless network environments. Additionally, KT is collaborating with VR content producer Ava Entertainment to create various 8K VR content featuring Korea’s representative cultural assets such as Gyeongbokgung Palace and Taekwondo, as well as K-POP, aiming to have about 100 ultra-high-definition VR titles by the end of this year.
