[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is constructing the Dobong-dong Multipurpose Sports Center at 84 Dobong-ro 180-gil (former Dobong Indoor Badminton Court) to support various sports activities for residents amid the increasing population of recreational athletes.

The multipurpose sports center will be built on the site where the Dobong Indoor Badminton Court, a temporary structure erected in 2002, was located after its demolition. The district established the construction plan in 2016, completed all administrative procedures including feasibility studies and investment reviews, and finalized the design in October 2019.

Construction began this month and is scheduled to be completed by May next year.

The Dobong-dong Multipurpose Sports Center will be a three-story building above ground with two basement levels, covering a total floor area of 5,724.52㎡, with a total project cost of 22.239 billion KRW. The facilities will include: △1st floor - swimming pool, information desk △2nd floor - fitness center, infant gym, club rooms △3rd floor - multipurpose gymnasium (badminton, basketball, volleyball, etc.) △Basement 1-2 floors - parking lot.

Notably, the multipurpose sports center, which supports diverse sports activities for residents, is located near the frequently used "Miracle Library" for children and includes an infant gym where children can be active. It has also obtained a preliminary certification for barrier-free living environment (excellent grade), ensuring safe and convenient use for people with disabilities.

Additionally, the building has acquired preliminary certifications for energy efficiency (1++ grade) and green building (Excellent Green Level 2) through designs that consider indoor lighting and daylighting for the swimming pool and sports facilities.

The district is also constructing a multipurpose sports center in Ssangmun-dong to serve residents in Ssangmun-dong and Banghak-dong, areas lacking sports facilities. The Ssangmun-dong Multipurpose Sports Center will be located in the 265 area of Ssangmun-dong, with one basement and three above-ground floors, covering 4,569㎡, with a project cost of 21.78 billion KRW. Construction started in January 2021 and is expected to be completed by May 2022. Key facilities will include a swimming pool, fitness center, multipurpose gymnasium, community care center, and indoor playground.

Along with the Changdong Cultural and Sports Center located in Changdong, the establishment of multipurpose sports centers in Dobong-dong and Ssangmun-dong will expand public sports facilities accessible within 10 minutes in areas with poor sports infrastructure, contributing to residents' physical fitness and balanced regional development.

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, "I hope residents of all generations, from infants to seniors, will use the sports centers to improve their health," adding, "I hope the multipurpose sports centers become healthy and vibrant cultural spaces for all residents."
