청 "Negotiations with Japan Ongoing on GSOMIA Issue"
Explanation "Not True" Regarding Media Reports on "Hardliners at Cheongwadae Advocating GSOMIA Termination"
[Asia Economy reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Son Seon-hee] A senior Blue House official met with reporters on the 12th and said regarding the termination of the Korea-Japan General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) issue, "We have been negotiating with the Japanese side continuously on this matter. Both our side and the Japanese side are conducting negotiations to achieve a favorable outcome for both parties." The official added, "The situation remains unchanged. There is no special re-discussion or anything like that."
The official denied reports from some media outlets claiming that hardliners at the Blue House are pushing for the termination of GSOMIA.
Meanwhile, when asked about the Japanese Yomiuri Shimbun's repeated critical articles on the South Korean government's policy direction, the senior Blue House official explained, "It is the freedom of the press for a Japanese media outlet to report from whatever perspective it chooses, and what I mentioned yesterday was simply that such reports were shared during a meeting and discussed; it was not a special stance."
