Dongdaemun-gu Supports Local Taxes for COVID-19 Infection Victims
Extension of Reporting and Payment Deadlines, Collection Deferrals, etc. for Victims Related to the Former Novel Coronavirus Infection
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is extending the local tax filing and payment deadlines and deferring collection to support taxpayers facing difficulties due to the novel coronavirus infection. Tax audits will also be deferred.
The targets are confirmed cases and quarantined individuals of the novel coronavirus infection, as well as businesses experiencing difficulties due to closures following visits by confirmed cases.
Eligible taxpayers can extend the filing and payment deadlines for taxable items such as acquisition tax, local income tax, and employee resident tax by up to 6 months (one extension, maximum 1 year) without providing tax guarantees. If payment of already notified or taxable local taxes is difficult, collection deferral without tax guarantees is possible within the same 6-month period (one extension, maximum 1 year).
Furthermore, except in unavoidable cases such as the imminent expiration of the assessment statute of limitations, tax audits for confirmed cases, quarantined individuals, and affected businesses will be deferred until the period determined by the Dongdaemun-gu Office Mayor.
In particular, if it is difficult for the affected parties to apply for extensions of filing and payment deadlines or collection deferrals due to confirmation or quarantine, the Dongdaemun-gu Office Mayor will apply and support on their behalf ex officio.
