[Kim Maengnyeong's Golf English Conversation] "What Is the Correct Ball Position at Address?"
In golf, the position of the ball at address is extremely important (Tips for correct golf ball position at address).
There are two main theories. The first is to always position the ball in line with the left heel, regardless of club number. The second is to adjust the ball position depending on the club: for the driver, place the ball by the left heel, and for shorter clubs, move the ball closer to the center. Either approach is fine, as long as the golfer feels comfortable. For reference, placing the ball too far to the left may result in a pull shot, while placing it too far to the right can cause a push or slice.
Now, let's look at a conversation about the correct ball position for each club (We'll now look at the correct golf ball position for each club: driver, irons, wedges).
A (Student): I know that the ball position is very important at address. Is my ball positioned correctly for my drive?
B (Golf pro): Well, I think it is too close to your right foot. The ball should be placed inside the left foot when you hit a drive. The normal ball position is to set the ball up in line with the left heel.
A: What's the ball position for an iron shot?
B: For middle iron shots, you should place the ball in the center of the stance.
A: How about ball positioning for my pitching wedge?
B: You shouldn't place your ball in the center of your stance, but rather you should place the ball a bit more to the right.
