Daegu Dong-gu Eul is known as a particularly conservative area even within the strongly conservative Daegu region.
Currently, three candidates are competing for the nomination from the Liberty Korea Party: former Army Lieutenant Colonel Kim Young-hee, former Minister Kim Jae-soo, and lawyer Do Tae-woo. Additionally, Representative Kim Kyu-hwan is also rumored to be running, making the nomination competition expected to be intense.
It is uncertain whether one of these candidates will receive the Liberty Korea Party nomination or if a strategic nomination will be made. If a strategic nomination occurs, it is expected that the local candidates who have cultivated their voter base will strongly oppose it.
Candidate Kim Jae-soo served as the last Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs under the Park Geun-hye administration, and candidate Do Tae-woo was part of former President Park Geun-hye’s legal defense team during the state affairs manipulation scandal.
Also, former Blue House spokesperson Yoon Chang-jung, who resigned amid sexual harassment allegations, has declared his candidacy as an independent.
Do Tae-woo and Yoon Chang-jung, considered pro-Park figures, declared their candidacies in Representative Yoo Seung-min’s district, citing reasons such as “punishing the traitorous group that expelled former President Park when she was dragged to court in disgrace” and “politically judging Representative Yoo Seung-min, the betrayer of former President Park.”
However, Yoo’s announcement that he will not run somewhat undermines their reasons for running.
