Candidate Kim Seong-jin Withdraws from National Assembly Preliminary Candidacy
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Kim Seong-jin, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Gwangsan District, Gwangju Metropolitan City, ultimately withdrew from the preliminary candidacy for the National Assembly on the 11th due to issues related to party members with voting rights.
Preliminary candidate Kim Seong-jin expressed regret, stating, "During the registration process for the nomination screening documents on the 28th of last month, some related personnel excessively verified party members with voting rights, which ultimately compromised the fairness of the party's primary election. Although this occurred without my knowledge, as a candidate, I take full responsibility for all matters related to the primary."
He also apologized, saying, "I sincerely apologize to the party and all party comrades for unexpectedly causing burden and confusion to the party. Therefore, I intend to resign from the preliminary candidacy."
He emphasized, "For over 30 years, I have walked a single path honestly for the industrial development of the nation and regional progress. I believe that resigning from the preliminary candidacy now is the most honest way to convey my sincere feelings to the party, party members, and local residents."
He continued, "Although I had been pursuing unification with preliminary candidate Park Si-jong, I am withdrawing due to unforeseen circumstances. However, in accordance with the spirit of the unification agreement, I support and endorse preliminary candidate Park Si-jong," and added, "I ask preliminary candidate Park Si-jong to accomplish the unification mission of future development and innovation for Gwangsan and Gwangju."
