Partial Closure of National Park Trails... 'Spring Wildfire Prevention'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Korea National Park Service announced on the 11th that the spring wildfire prevention period will be set until May 15, and 103 hiking trails will be closed for three months from February 15.
Among the 607 hiking trail sections in national parks nationwide, 473 sections, including Jirisan Seongsamjae to Nogodan summit, can be used as usual. However, 103 sections in wildfire-prone areas, such as Seoraksan Osaek to Daecheongbong, will be completely closed to entry.
Additionally, some sections (31 sections, totaling 171 km) will be partially restricted considering hiking conditions and wildfire risks.
Detailed information on the restricted hiking trails can be found on the Korea National Park Service website.
The Korea National Park Service plans to conduct wildfire prevention and monitoring using 113 wildfire surveillance cameras and 412 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at trail entrances.
In case of wildfire occurrence, 61 firefighting vehicles and 266 wildfire reporting terminals will be utilized for early suppression.
Enforcement against illegal activities such as smoking, bringing inflammable materials into the national parks, and unauthorized entry into restricted areas will also be strengthened.
