Dispatched to 30 Diplomatic Missions Over 6 Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 11th that it has finalized the selection of 30 '2020 Overseas Diplomatic Missions Public Diplomacy Interns' to be dispatched to 30 diplomatic missions for six months.
Prior to their dispatch, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an orientation on the 10th at the Public Diplomacy Center on the first floor of the Ministry to enhance the interns' awareness and understanding of public diplomacy and their job responsibilities.
The orientation consisted of programs including △ education on the significance and purpose of public diplomacy △ safety and precautions during overseas stay △ guidance on dispatch preparation procedures △ sharing experiences of previously dispatched interns.
In particular, this orientation was held in conjunction with a homecoming day, the first since the program began in 2013. At the homecoming day, former interns who participated in the event shared vivid experiences as interns and how these experiences positively influenced their career paths and employment.
The former interns expressed, "We wanted to tell our juniors how valuable the internship experience was in life and how to make the most effective use of that time, so we are very pleased that such an opportunity was provided."
Seo Eun-ji, Director of the Public Culture and Diplomacy Bureau, said in her greeting, "As public diplomacy interns at overseas missions directly participate in public diplomacy and promote Korea, I hope they will act with pride and responsibility as civilian public diplomats," expressing her hope that the activities will be a meaningful experience for the participants.
