Wando-gun, Village Community Revitalization Project Gains Momentum
Two Village Communities in Jeonnam Province and One Village Enterprise Selected in Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Contest
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeonnam announced on the 11th that it has gained momentum in revitalizing village communities as it was selected for the Jeonnam Province’s village community contest project and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS)-type village enterprise contest project.
Jeonnam Province’s village community contest project selected Daedonghoe of Docheong 1-ri and Saemaeulhoe of Yangji-ri in Cheongsan-do through Jeonnam Province’s screening in January, and each will receive 5 million KRW in project funds.
The two selected villages will promote projects such as making story sketchbooks, creating old roads, and painting murals to enhance village vitality and build beautiful communities.
Meanwhile, the county has independently promoted the ‘Hope Future Wando Happy Village Community Contest Project’ and has contributed to community revitalization by supporting 21 organizations with 320 million KRW so far.
The MOIS-type village enterprises involved 22 companies and organizations from Jeonnam applying, with 10 finally selected after the first Jeonnam Province screening and the second MOIS screening. ‘Future Cooperative of Cheongsan-do’ achieved the great success of being selected as a Jeonnam-type preliminary village enterprise last year and then as a new MOIS-type village enterprise in 2020.
Village enterprises are companies that create profits and jobs by utilizing local resources led by residents. When designated as MOIS-type, they can receive up to 50 million KRW in project funds to be used for labor costs, operating expenses, facility and equipment costs, etc.
Additionally, various benefits are provided to help enterprises grow through promotional support for products produced by the companies and one-on-one customized consulting.
The Future Cooperative of Cheongsan-do, newly selected as a MOIS-type village enterprise this time, is expected to contribute significantly to job creation for vulnerable groups in the region and increase residents’ income through cemetery management and specialty product sales businesses. It is also anticipated to engage in social contribution activities such as donating profits to elderly living alone and vulnerable groups and talent donation.
The county spares no administrative support to foster village enterprises and social enterprises, especially assisting residents in applying for contest projects by providing consulting on how to write business plans to help with project selection.
As a result of these efforts, one preliminary social enterprise, one certified social enterprise, and one Jeonnam-type preliminary village enterprise were selected last year, and with the designation of the MOIS-type village enterprise this time, a total of 14 village enterprises and 5 social enterprises are designated and operating.
