Comprehensive Quarantine Measures Established in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju to Prevent COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) has established a ‘Comprehensive Community Quarantine Plan’ to eradicate the novel coronavirus and designated the period until the 16th as an ‘Intensive Quarantine Period’ and has begun its implementation.
According to Gwangsan-gu on the 10th, this comprehensive plan reflects the will to create a safe and clean area for citizens through proactive activities such as citizen-participatory public-private joint quarantine, moving away from passive measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
On the day, Gwangsan-gu deployed 89 pieces of equipment and 144 personnel to complete public quarantine at 63 locations. Additionally, 306 Gwangsan-gu residents participated and conducted autonomous quarantine at 137 locations using 251 pieces of equipment.
Gwangsan-gu divided the quarantine promotion plan into seven sectors by target, including industrial economic facilities, vulnerable areas by neighborhood, and multi-use facilities in this comprehensive plan.
First, Gwangsan-gu decided to guarantee the participation of companies and merchant associations in the quarantine of industrial economic facilities. They plan to support the formation of a provisional ‘Clean Industrial Complex and Alley Market Quarantine Team’ consisting of businesspeople and merchant association members, enabling them to quarantine industrial complexes, foreign dormitories, alley markets, and traditional markets.
Furthermore, they will support quarantine activities led by social organization members such as the Community Security Council in each neighborhood.
Disinfectants and sprayers have been distributed to each neighborhood administrative welfare center, allowing citizens to disinfect vulnerable areas such as senior centers, bus stops, and areas densely populated by foreign residents.
For social welfare facilities such as social, elderly, and disabled welfare centers, libraries, youth spaces, and daycare centers, the facility operating organizations have been requested to take the lead in disinfecting the interior and exterior of buildings.
Disinfectants have been distributed by neighborhood so that facilities can use them anytime.
Meanwhile, the 1st Combat Flight Wing has completed disinfection of multi-use facilities such as Gwangju Airport and Gwangju Songjeong Station and will also engage in quarantine along major roads in Gwangsan-gu.
Eleven disinfectant vehicles will be deployed, and Gwangsan-gu plans to disinfect major roads by adding 10 quarantine vehicles from the health center and specialized companies.
Side roads in residential areas around four universities including Honam University will be disinfected by Gwangsan-gu’s street environment managers using water trucks, cargo trucks, and personal sprayers.
Gwangsan-gu, which is also promoting self-disinfection of apartment complexes and academies, asks citizens engaged in quarantine to use disinfectants provided by the neighborhood administrative welfare centers.
Moreover, considering that poor eating habits are one of the causes of this novel coronavirus infectious disease, Gwangsan-gu plans to establish and promote a support system so that stores and restaurants providing food can practice disinfection once a day.
