A Man in His 50s Arrested for Deceiving Small Business Owners and Extorting Cash
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A man in his 50s who deceived small business owners and embezzled cash has been arrested.
On the 10th, Jeju Dongbu Police Station announced that they have arrested and are investigating Mr. A (50), who was wanted on charges of habitual fraud.
Mr. A is accused of deceiving 17 workers at seafood stores, clothing shops, and real estate agencies in Dongmun Market, Jeju City, since May last year, embezzling a total of 3,036,000 won.
On the 7th at around 3:30 PM, Mr. A was caught by police who responded to a report when he tried to borrow money at a real estate agency office in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, claiming he had lost his cellphone and wallet.
Previously, on May 12 last year, Mr. A wrote an order worth about 10 million won to merchant Mr. B (66) at a seafood store in Dongmun Market, Jeju City, to reassure him, then embezzled 300,000 won in cash, continuing the crime using the same method.
While still wanted, Mr. A was arrested by the police while attempting to embezzle cash using the same method.
