Thorough Quarantine Measures in Gosiwon and Jjokbangchon Areas
Jung-gu Monitors 147 Goshiwon Facilities and Sequentially Disinfects; Disinfects a Total of 932 Residential Vulnerable Households and Facilities Including Ssokbangchon
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) conducted a thorough disinfection of jjokbangchon (small rooms village) and gosiwon (boarding houses) with vulnerable residential environments. The district took charge of managing vulnerable households to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (hereafter COVID-19).
The district carried out disinfection over three days from the 5th to the 7th at a total of 932 locations, including residentially vulnerable areas densely populated with vulnerable households such as jjokbangchon managed by Namdaemun Jjokbang Counseling Center, elderly welfare facilities, and facilities for the disabled. For thorough disinfection, the jjokbang households were visited individually in cooperation with the local community centers after surveying their needs in advance.
The disinfection was conducted by a professional company using a spraying method with a sterilizing disinfectant product that is harmless to humans. Sprayer-type disinfectors, sterilizers and disinfectants, hand sanitizers, gloves, and other supplies were distributed to enable thrice-weekly self-disinfection.
Additionally, the district plans to complete sequential disinfection within this week after assessing the status of 147 gosiwon in the area, where about 3,400 people reside.
Gosiwon operators were encouraged to stock hand sanitizers and masks and to strictly maintain personal hygiene by posting infection prevention guidelines inside the gosiwon. For some gosiwon where Chinese residents live, 5,000 masks were distributed, and continuous monitoring is being conducted in cooperation with the gosiwon business owners.
Starting from the 7th, the district will also conduct disinfection education targeting 3,158 food hygiene establishments and general lodging facilities within the tourist special zone. Considering the timeliness and efficiency due to the nature of general restaurants, disinfection supplies such as spray-type disinfectants will be distributed, and guidance on disinfection methods will be provided. For 1,009 street stalls (street vendors) within the tourist special zone, staff members visited directly to encourage mask-wearing, distribute spray-type disinfectants, and ensure proper disinfection.
Seoyangho, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "Now is the time for everyone to come together. The entire district staff is working hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19," adding, "We ask for your cooperation despite any inconvenience and once again request that you strictly follow hygiene rules."
