'Parasite' Adds Trophy Ahead of Oscars Day
Film Independent Spirit Awards 'Best International Film' Winner
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jong-gil] Director Bong Joon-ho's film Parasite added another trophy just one day before the American Academy Awards. It won the Best International Film award at the 35th Film Independent Spirit Awards held on the 8th (local time) in Santa Monica, California, USA.
This event is an independent film awards ceremony targeting films not handled by major distributors. It began in 1984. Director Bong was nominated in 2010 for Mother but did not win. However, he made up for the disappointment from 10 years ago with Parasite.
Upon receiving the trophy, he said, "I thank the actors and staff who showed the best ensemble, and Barunson, CJ, and Neon who supported everything." Director Bong recalled, "I remember the day of the first screening of Parasite at a very old theater in New York. During the Q&A, I saw a mouse passing behind the audience," adding, "It felt surreal. I think that was a symbol of good luck."
